aims of the business environment programme

Aims: The Business and Environment programme seeks to combine local economic development with the wider issues of environment.

Groundwork Hackney works to achieve this in a number of ways which include:

  • working with individual businesses to improve the fabric, appearance and square footage (see Hackney Wick Boundary and Eyesore sites programme)
  • development of successful partnerships through project work with statutary agencies and funders, businesses and local people to improve the quality of both open spaces and the general streetscape/infrastructure of town centres (see Hackney Town Centre, Dalston Town Centre)
  • maximising the economic value of project work via the integration of Intermediate Labour Market schemes where appropriate

Funding comes from a variety of diverse sources which include Groundwork's own 'Vital Centres and Green Links' programme, European Structural Funds through Objective 2, SRB funds that are specific to areas of the borough of Hackney; SRB Heart of Hackney, Haggerston and Hackney Wick as well as the Heritage Lottery Fund, private-sector contributions from both major companies such as Railtrack plc and Silverlink Trains.

Partners include; local businesses, government agencies , Housing Associations and Trusts eg Peabody Trust as well as local authorities.  We intend to build on previous achievements by further developing more strategic projects through our latest pan London SRB6 programme. This includes major projects around Hackney Central Station and Trinity Buoy Wharf
