Central Hackney has compound problems of poor infrastructure, run-down commercial premises, high rates of street crime and degraded environmental quality. Groundwork Hackney is now working to overcome these problems and develop new economic potential.
The Trust has secured nearly £750,000 from the Single Regeneration Budget over the next three years to assist in this comprehensive regeneration of the Hackney Central hub. It hopes to enable the redevelopment of the old station and adjacent commercial space including the historic Gibbons Building, as well as the Bohemia Place railway arches. The project will improve the quality of the public realm, access to public transport and safety of open spaces with a focus on St John’s Churchyard. BACKGROUND
